CurveExpert Pro 2.3.0 and GraphExpert Pro 1.3.0 released
Due on New Year's Day 2016, but just a day late! Both CurveExpert Professional and GraphExpert Professional have been updated today, which is a free upgrade for all existing customers. It has been a while since these two products have been updated; the reason for this was a long and sordid fight with Google over the content of this web site, as they wanted to exert editorial control over what was present here. That story might be told someday, but for now, we will just say that the process was not fun and consumed most of our productive hours in 2015.
In both products, the primary addition is the ability to digitize data from an image.
In many practical cases, data to be analyzed is in the form of a picture or image. Now, in both CurveExpert Professional and GraphExpert Professional, you can use the built-in digitization capabilities in order to extract the data present on an image into a dataset (to “digitize”, in this context, means to convert content from an image into a usable dataset). To successfully digitize information from an image into data, information about how pixels in an image map to real data must be collected by the application, and the digitizer leads you through this process.
The digitizer supports Cartesian (XY) and polar plots; XY plots can have semilog or log-log axes. Skewed axes are also supported intrinsically by the transformations performed by the digitizer engine.
The full changelog for CurveExpert Professional is as follows:
- NEW: Added the ability digitize datasets from a source image. The digitized data becomes the main dataset that is operated on in CurveExpert Pro.
- NEW: added Savitzky-Golay smoothing
- RESOLVED: when drawing a line on a log plot, the points were not evenly spaced in log scale. Fixed.
- RESOLVED: transparency setting was lost from a contour once the graph properties dialog was exited. Fixed.
- RESOLVED: import of noisy_sin.dat, which had special tags at the top of the file, gave these special lines as the column headers. Fixed.
The full changelog for GraphExpert Professional is as follows:
- NEW: Added the ability digitize datasets from a source image. The digitized data becomes a component in GraphExpert Pro.
Fixed.
- RESOLVED: if a component had a colon (or another illegal filename character as defined by the operating system), the file dialog did not automatically have a default filename filled in when exporting the data. Fixed.
- RESOLVED: programmed function would fail to run if math.* functions were used. A second layer of error checking has been added in order to check advanced functions for errors before allowing the user to use them. Fixed.
